  • OS/4 project progress on 2013
Sun, 05 Jan 2014 02:18:10 GMT
The OS/4 project has been running for quite some time, with the goal of updating the "core" or kernel of OS/2. It is likely that their kernel violates some IBM license, since they certainly do not have their permission to create modified works. However, those willing to experiment and ignore the legal murkiness can test out their package, which now includes replacements for the ACPI driver (acpi4.sys), clock driver (clock03b.sys), doscall1.dll, a PSD driver (os4apic.psd), an updated kernel (os4krnl), and a full featured replacement for os2ldr that includes the ability to select which kernel file to boot. Apparently it will boot some newer systems which the regular ACPI drivers do not work on yet. Much information is in Russian, but the package does include English documentation. • OS/4's QSINIT loader
Sun, 05 Jan 2014 02:15:48 GMT
A side project of OS/4 is the QSINIT loader, which is another replacement for OS2LDR. Newer versions of this loader allow 3.5GB of RAM to be used on certain systems where OS2LDR prevents using more than 512MB due to "memory holes". It also allows using memory above 4GB as a RAM disk, which otherwise is useless on a 32-bit operating system that does not support PAE (such as OS/2). Unfortunately, it is currently incompatible with the official ACPI drivers, due to some assumptions made in that code. Source: OS/2 Warp News and Rumors

  • eCS-ISP and GNU Ports mailing lists
Sun, 05 Jan 2014 02:12:32 GMT

GNU Ports is geared toward porting Linux apps to eCS. Subscribers must request access and accept the confirmation email. The mailing list convention is to send emails to listname-on to subscribe, listname-off to unsubscribe, listname-digest to switch to digest mode, listname-index to switch to index mode, and listname-request for administrative queries. Thanks to Lewis Rosenthal for the info. Source: OS/2 Warp News and Rumors

From the basic idea of writing a simple web browser it grew up in an every day usable very fast web browser. • ePDF 2.99 - rev 4 for GhostScript 9.10
Mon, 13 Jan 2014 14:42:38 GMT
Frank Wochatz prepared ePDF for the latest version. Changes: - support for FastWebView instead of optimization/linearization This means now you get web optimized PDFs in one distiller-loop. The old PDFOPT has been dropped from GS support. - UseCIEColor reactivated This has been broken in earlier GS versions so I had to disable it. Now it is working in GS - and ePDF, aswell. - a Fix for Mesa/2 users: leading backslahes in target file name will be stripped now correctly For your ePDF setup: You need to add some more directories to you distiller setip. At least: D:\gscript\gs9.10\lib;D:\ gscript\gs9.10\resource\init;D:\gscript\gs9.10\resource\fonts;C:\psfonts Downloadlinks: GS 9.10 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/764 ... 131231.zip GCC473 for GS http://www.os2site.com/sw/dev/gcc/gcc-4.7.3/gcc473.zip ePDF update (binary only) http://subsys.de/epdf/download/ePDF299-4.zip Note: this might be not backward compatible with older GS versions. It appears that the improvements in this fork are mostly related to other platforms (DOS, 64-bit Windows and Linux), but OS/2 installers are available. Meanwhile, OpenWatcom proper is still (6/5/2010) on version 1.9; the most recent activity in the Perforce depot was last November. Source: OS/2 Warp News and Rumors
