A.1)
It's necessary include to OS/2 as many utilities and extenders as possible.
We talk about functions: service, disk, file utilities, .. software aimed to maintain the system.
Basic apps for users, any drivers.

Moreover, it's necessary include all demo versions of commercial software.
Those applications which are distributed with OS, have maximal sellings.
The applications which are not included - are used by <1% of users.
(The developer of OS is obligated create special conditions
for the developers of commercial software, because they define the area of OS usage).


A.2)
The users post the requests what functions to include:

* Local system -> System setup -> there should be Device Manager, viewer of PCI devices.

* Desktop, click on picture -> there should be Convert command in popup menu,
new converters can be included to OS without discussions.

* Programs -> Modern picture viewer should be included to the system.

* Templates folder -> template of Address book, cards with personal information should be located there

* System doesn't boot. The users want boot from DVD and start a Doctor to repair system.
This utility should be created (or Safe mode)

* .. [+] Add your requests (we expect to see 50 - 100 offerings)


A.3) By default all new functions and not visible (installed but not running)
and popup by request of users.

Examples:
* No need to create objects for music Converts applications. Convert function
may be (hidden) inserted into object popup menu of audio files (objects)

* No need to create 50 icons (objects) in Programs folder.
There should be 7+-2 (5 .. 9) folders, which contain other sub-folders.
And all dosenz of applications are sorted by this folders (categories)


A.4) Who manages the list of new functions? (modules which should be included to the OS)
The developer of OS or user groups.


A.5)
OS developer is publishing some requirements to new modules:
* the utilities should me multi-language
* quality: some requirements to quality
* License to distribute the module with OS

Ich stimme hier mit meinem Vorredner ganz und gar nicht überein.
Ich möchte nicht alles in das OS integriert wissen. Ich würde mir ein möglichst "schlankes" OS wünschen und alles weitere optional installieren. SO stelle ICH mir ein OS vor.

da kann ich Dir nur zustimmen, in einem Betriebssystem sollte nur das sein, was man zum Benutzen der Hardware und zum Ausführen von Programmen wirklich braucht, zudem noch Anwendungen die bei der Fehlersuche und Behebung nützlich bzw. wichtig sind.

Für OS/2 bedeutet das: Was Desktop-Erweiterungen anbelangt ist manches wichtig, XWP z.B. weil der auch viele Fehler behebt, vieles aber nicht, daher muss man hier auswählen können was man wirklich will/braucht, außerdem muss auch nicht jede beliebige Erweiterung direkt auf der Installations-CD sein.

Das ist natürlich "diametral" zu den Wünschen von Eugene, der seine Sachen möglichst breit "verteilen" will und auch nicht davor zurückschreckt unzählige Foren usw. zu zuspammen. Das er sich damit keinen Gefallen tut, hat er allerdings noch immer nicht begriffen.

Treiber sollten dabei sein und Desktopenhancer optional installierbar sein.

Anwendungen müssen nicht dem OS beiligen, und halb übersetzte russische Programme oder Programme, wo es nur russisch-sprachige Support-Webseiten gibt, finde ich auch nicht optimal. Die Frage ist da auch immer, welche (kommerziellen) Programme man da rein bringt, und ob das dann fair gegenüber anderen kommerziellen Programmen ist. Es reicht schon, das Google und Amazon Searchengines im Firefox vorinstalliert sind, m.E. ist das ein Unding.

Programme die nicht vorinstalliert sind, und dann nur von 1% der Leute nachinstalliert werden sind ev. auch nicht ganz so wichtig.

Mir würde schon eine brauchbare Unicode-Unterstützung im PM genügen oder zumindest eine einfache Umschaltmöglichkeit der Zeichensätze und Tastaturbelegung. Das ist selbst unter Windows 95 schon besser gelöst. Dann wären auch russischsprachige Support-Seiten kein Problem für mich
Ein (russisches bzw. auf russisch eingestelltes) OS/2 in Virtual PC zu betreiben ist keine elegante Lösung - nur um mal etwas Text einzugeben und auch angezeigt zu bekommen. Plug and Play wäre es, eine beliebige Tastatur anzuschließen und deren Belegung sofort nutzen zu können.
